In short

Premarital counseling is time for engaged couples to build a strong foundation together before the wedding. I offer premarital counseling online anywhere in Washington, so you can both join from home. We focus on how you communicate, how you handle conflict, and how you stay connected. Sessions are $180, and we start with a free 15-minute consult.
Why now
Why couples do premarital counseling before the wedding
“It’s building, not repairing.”
Premarital counseling isn't a sign that something is wrong. It's the opposite. It's a chance to talk about the things couples often assume about each other, while things are good and you both have the energy for it.
I especially enjoy working with couples who are preparing for marriage and want to build their partnership on purpose. Premarital therapy gives you a shared language for hard conversations, and a clearer picture of what each of you expects before those expectations get tested.
In our sessions
What we talk about

How you talk and argue
How each of you handles stress and disagreement, and how to work through conflict before it hardens into a pattern. Skills you can use long after we finish.
What you each expect
The assumptions each of you brings from your own family about roles, time and what married life looks like. Naming them now makes them easier to talk about.
Staying connected
Emotional connection and intimacy as everyday habits, not afterthoughts. How to turn toward each other when life gets busy, stressful, or simply routine.

Do we need premarital counseling if things are good?
Things being good is the best time to start. You have goodwill, energy and curiosity about each other, which makes it easier to talk openly about family, conflict and what you each expect from marriage. Premarital counseling is about building, not repairing.
How many sessions is premarital counseling?
There's no fixed number. Many couples meet for about 8 to 10 sessions, but it depends on what you want to cover and how much time you have before the wedding. We'll talk about it in your first session and decide together what feels right for the two of you.
What topics come up in premarital counseling?
We talk about how you communicate, how you handle conflict, and how you stay connected emotionally and physically. We also look at the expectations each of you brings into marriage, often from the families you grew up in. You choose what matters most to the two of you.
Does insurance cover premarital counseling?
Coverage varies by plan, and many plans only cover therapy when it's medically necessary, so premarital counseling often isn't covered. It's worth calling your insurer to ask. You can also pay by card. See fees and insurance for the details.
