How we work
What couples work on in therapy
“My job isn’t to pick a side.”
Most couples don't come in because they stopped caring. They come in because the same conversations keep going badly, or because they've drifted and aren't sure how to find their way back.
In couples therapy we work on communication, conflict, emotional connection and intimacy, and on building a stronger sense of partnership. Both of you are in the room, and my job isn't to pick a side. It's to help you both understand the pattern you're caught in, so you can respond to each other differently.
Areas of focus
What I help couples with

Communication and conflict
The same argument on repeat, or feeling unheard no matter how you say it. We slow the conversation down so each of you can really hear what the other means.
Connection and intimacy
When you feel more like roommates than partners. We work on emotional connection and intimacy, and on turning back toward each other in everyday moments.
Relationship patterns
The cycles you both fall into when things get tense. We name the pattern together, so it becomes something you face as a team, not something that divides you.
Three small steps
How to start
- 1
Book a free consult
Send a short request and we'll set up a free 15-minute call. It can be just you or both of you, whichever is easier.
- 2
Your first session
We get to know you as a couple: your history, what's going well, and what's hard. You both get a feel for me.
- 3
Find your rhythm
Most couples start with weekly sessions. Over time we adjust how often we meet based on your goals and your progress.
Trained in two approaches
How I use the Gottman Method and EFT with couples
I draw on both, depending on what the two of you need. Sessions are 53 minutes by secure video. Couples join from home anywhere in Washington, from Seattle and Tacoma to Spokane and Vancouver, which makes marriage counseling online easy to fit around work.
The Gottman Method
A research-based approach to couples therapy that focuses on friendship, managing conflict, and building shared meaning. I have Level 1 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
Emotionally Focused Therapy
EFT looks at the emotional cycle underneath your arguments and how partners can reach for each other instead of pulling away. I have Level 1 training in EFT.

What if my partner isn't ready for couples therapy?
This is very common, and you still have options. A free consult is a good first step, and it can be just you or both of you. If you're ready and your partner isn't, starting with individual therapy lets you focus on your own needs and patterns. If your partner becomes open to it later, we can figure out next steps together.
What happens in couples therapy?
We start by understanding your relationship: how you met, what's working, and where you keep getting stuck. From there, sessions focus on the patterns between you, including how you communicate, handle conflict and stay connected. I stay in the middle, and neither of you is the problem to fix.
When should we start couples therapy?
You don't have to wait until things feel impossible. Many couples reach out when something just doesn't feel quite right, or when they want to feel closer and aren't sure how. Starting while there's still goodwill between you gives us more to work with.
Is couples therapy worth it for us?
That depends on what you both want from it, and on fit. What couples therapy offers is a structured space to slow down, hear each other, and try new ways of responding. The free consult is there so you can see how it feels before committing to anything.
Can we do couples therapy online from home?
Yes. Couples sessions happen by secure video, so you can meet from home anywhere in Washington. You'll want a private space where you can both talk openly without being overheard. Sessions are 53 minutes, the same length as individual sessions.
Whether you start together or one of you starts first, we can begin right where you are.
